FixmyData Releases New Technology for Hardware Encrypted SSDs Based on Seagate Technology's SandForce Controller

Dallas, March 23, 2018 - FixmyData, the data recovery and data storage technology division of FixmyData, has released a major update to its ZCOPY Ultra™ tool. This tool is used to read, rebuild, restore, and recover encrypted data from solid-state drives (SSDs) based on Seagate Technology's SandForce controller.

"This update to ZCOPY Ultra™ enhances our customer experience by adding support for the highly secure AES-128 and AES-256 hardware encryption formats used by SandForce SSD controllers," said Don Wells, General Manager of FixmyData. "The SandForce controller is used by a large number of SSD manufacturers, including WD-SanDisk, Toshiba-OCZ, Intel, Kingston, Corsair, PNY, AData, and others."

Sandforce SSD Data Recovery Today, most SSD and HDD manufacturers use hardware-based full disk encryption by default to prevent unauthorized data access, and SandForce was one of the first to implement such encryption in all its controllers. Naturally, hardware-based encryption severely hinders the data recovery process in the event of an SSD or HDD drive failure. In cooperation with SandForce, FixmyData developed a unique technology to recover data from failed SSDs even with corrupted metadata (also known as "panic mode"). The hardware component of ZCOPY Ultra provides the ability to read the SSD's NAND chips as raw dump files or images. Subsequently, the software component of ZCOPY Ultra can rebuild the entire SSD from individual raw dump files into standard LBA format accessible by the operating system and applications.

"Since 2012, FixmyData has maintained a cooperative relationship with SandForce. With this update to ZCOPY Ultra™, we have added the ability to decrypt raw flash image pages encrypted by SandForce's SF-1222, SF-2241, SF-2281, and other similar SSD controllers," said Yevgeniy Tolkunov, Chief Technology Officer of FixmyData. "We are also able to assist in decrypting SSDs that are inaccessible due to lost user ATA passwords, provided proof of ownership or a court order is supplied by the user."
