Weifang data recovery -- the repair process of a company's hard drive after being burned

Client Background: Weifang Data Recovery --- A company in Weifang suffered a fire that damaged their hard drives.

Disaster Scenario: A fire in the company office caused the hard drives to be damaged, with the drives from the primary financial server severely affected by the fire. The hard drives contained the company's financial data, customer contracts, and tax documents from the past 5 years.

Recovery Challenges:

  • The hard drives were severely damaged by the high temperatures and flames of the fire. After the firefighting efforts, water from the hoses caused water ingress into the drives, posing a risk of circuit board corrosion.

  • The data recovery had to be performed in a cleanroom environment to prevent further damage to the platters.

  • The two hard drives were theoretically mirrored, but their respective states needed confirmation. One of them was so severely damaged that it was deemed unrecoverable.

Recovery Process:

  1. Emergency Pre-treatment: Upon receiving the hard drives, engineers immediately disassembled them on a clean bench and cleaned the platters and head assemblies using specialized solutions.

  2. Component Replacement: It was found that the circuit boards of both hard drives were severely corroded. Replacement circuit boards were matched and sourced from hard drives of the same model.

  3. Image Creation: Professional equipment was used to create complete images of both hard drives. It was discovered that one of the drives also had damaged read/write heads.

  4. Data Reconstruction: Using the data from the intact image and combining it with readable sectors from the partially damaged drive, the complete file system was successfully reconstructed.

Successful Outcome:

  • 98.7% of the data was recovered, including all critical financial databases.

  • Only some temporary cache files and non-critical logs were lost.

  • Recovery Time: 48 hours.

  • Helped the company avoid potential data loss and legal risks valued at approximately 2 million RMB.
